My earliest performing took place in the Youth Gospel Choir at New Song Community Church where I was exposed to gospel music at a very young age. When I was about 10 yrs old I started playing piano, and within a year was playing Mozart and Beethoven pieces by ear. As a teenager I picked up guitar and bass and was heavily influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I received a full scholarship to Mt. Hood Community College where I became heavily steeped in Jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and countless others. I received an Associates Degree in Music from Mt. Hood and was then offered a scholarship to Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA to study bass.
While in Los Angeles I became very involved in the local music scene and worked full time as a bass player at local clubs and teaching/performing at the school. I was awarded the prestigious Stanley Clarke Scholarship while in Los Angeles and earned my Bachelors Degree in Bass Performance (Contemporary Styles).
At M.I. I also studied recording software applications including Logic Pro and Pro Tools. I have the most experience with Logic but am comfortable Sonar and Pro Tools as well. I've worked as a producer on several projects including and afro beat group called Ijenneh, and a variety of projects for different churches in L.A. and Portland.
Recently relocated back to Portland, I have been working as a bassist around town performing and teaching. I love teaching because music has enriched my life so much and I like sharing that with other people. I like seeing the "light come on" when my students start understanding a new concept we are discussing. My main instrument is bass but I also teach guitar, keyboards and recording here at Guitar Center Studios.
