At age 12 he began taking piano lessons with a local teacher and in the same year joined the percussion section of his middle school band. During high school John was section leader of his drumline's PIT, leading over 25 fellow students to success in marching and concert season competitions. Somehow, he still found the time to work a fulltime job, too. When he was 17, John reached his goal of joining the award-winning snare line just before devoting his main focus away from piano and percussion to the guitar. During his education at Austin College in Sherman, TX, he studied all aspects of music, primary school education, and focused on classical guitar. After completing his degree John moved to Austin where he held a 7-year position playing lead guitar and back up vocals for a local hard rock group and released a few albums. He also married to his long-time friend before moving to Colorado in 2017 along with their two cats. Once he was familiar with his new surroundings, he began frequenting open mics and jams in the Boulder/Jefferson County area and made many new friends along the way. The arrival of COVID-19 in the Front Range provided him, like many others, with a lot of time to reflect on the bigger picture and his place within the music community. Working on several collaborations and projects during quarantine reawakened his urge to teach. When asked how come he had waited so long to finally share his knowledge John equates it to being similar to an ignored phone ringing in the corner. "The phone was always there, ringing, even as a youth, and I just never picked up the call." First it began with teaching a close family member, and then a young student from the community, and now John has several students on multiple instruments. He says there is nothing in his life that has provided him with the satisfaction and sense of duty that teaching music provides. "It's like the whole time you think the teacher is the educator when in fact it's the student educating the teacher most days."

I'm a guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, audio engineer, teacher, and performer, with my central life passion being music. Since beginning my musical journey in the fourth grade, I have gone all in and devoted myself to honing my craft through writing, performing, and eventually going to University of Colorado Denver to study performance and audio engineering. I love folk music, blues, rock, jazz, and jam bands, and really any artist who puts everything they have into their performance. Since graduating my focus is to put my best foot forward musically and spread my recordings and performances as far as possible. Additionally, I want to help the next generation fall in love with music, and nurture their passions like the amazing teachers that got me where I am today.
