Irina's first experience with the piano was learning songs her mom taught her when she was preschool aged, learning songs like "Blue Moon." She was exposed to many musical genres as a kid; her dad enjoyed smooth jazz, regularly listening to 98.7 when it was a smooth jazz station, for example. Her family's love of music naturally transferred to her. She finally began formal piano lessons at 8 years old training under Lesya Kovalchuk focusing on classical piano, emphasizing proper technique and musical expression. Irina quickly progressed and took on advanced pieces early on in her education. She participated in Student Achievement Testing offered by members of the MMTA (Michigan Music Teachers Association). Although Irina's primary focus in lessons was classical piano, she has broad musical interests and enjoys discovering new kinds of music. The skills she acquired from her lessons allowed her to branch out and create and play her own music.

I have been playing music since I was six years old. I started in choir, and moved to classical music, first playing clarinet. I then moved to bass, playing in Jazz band in 8th grade. Upon moving back to Michigan to live with my father, I moved to the guitar at 16. I studied guitar greats, such as Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Wes Montgomery and more during this time. I studied privately with a graduate from Berklee College of Music named Robert Huffman for three years, before continuing music theory learning at Washtenaw Community College, learning classical music theory as the highest theory level in the course. After transferring into Eastern Michigan University, I performed with local bands, before meeting with members of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Parliament Funkadelic at 24. Currently, I have recorded two projects (the album "Beyond The Magick Mirror" and my new project to be released at the end of this year) with this collective of Musicians, signed a distribution deal with Sony/AMG out of Toronto from legendary producer Mark S. Berry (The Beatles, David Bowie, Yes, Cameo, Joan Jett) under the artist name Duke Charelle. In 2022, I was awarded a Billboard Plaque for my single Liquid Galaxies (which reached #22 on Billboard Top 100), which was featured on the compilation disc "Hotline Miami: Vol #3". I am also music director of the band P-Funk Outlawz, led by Parliament Funkadelic drummer Lonnie Green, also known as Kount Funkula.

    Ryan Haley

Guitar Center Canton Township 39415 Ford Rd. Canton Township, MI
Hello! My name is Ryan Haley, and I have been a guitarist and bassist performing in the Detroit area since about 2013. I picked up the guitar around age 9, and started to find my way with music shortly thereafter. I was fortunate enough to have a great start to my music education through Hazel Park Schools, learning the trumpet, baritone, tuba, and marching tenor drums while still playing my guitar in multiple ensembles inside and outside of school until graduation. In 2017, I was lucky enough to be accepted to the Detroit Institute of Music Education and completed my bachelors degree in Guitar Performance in 2021. I currently perform throughout the Detroit-Metropolitan area with multiple local acts as a guitarist and bassist, including artists like Jon Paul Wallace, and my own band, Ursa Day. The first and most important thing I like my students to know about me is that we are in this together! I am a firm believer that the most important part of the process in learning a new instrument is enjoying what you're learning! I strive to ensure my students are excited about what they're hearing and playing first and foremost. To do this, I use democratic teaching strategies to help decide alongside my students what material they would like to cover, and at what pace. This means things like choices in songs and genres of interest are all up to you! It is my job to hear your goals and come up with the best plan for both of us to achieve them. I have experience with students from pre-school age (5-6 yrs) to older adults (60+), and have no expectations for a student who comes to me for instruction. My personal specialties as a guitarist lie primarily in Rock, Jazz, and Blues music, with improvisation and transcription of solos/parts being some of my favorite concepts to teach any new student. Thank you so much for reading this, and I hope to share my passion with you soon!
