I have played music for my entire adult life. My first band was formed in High School and we were terrible, but we had fun. I went on to play, record, and produce music for artists and film/tv while living in Los Angeles. I have toured and recorded on a variety of projects ranging from funk to sludge and love playing all kinds of music. My passion is writing songs. I write as often as possible and enjoy finding new ways to express myself on the instruments I play. I love to teach as well. Hello! Thanks for checking out my bio! I’m a lifelong musician from Portland, OR. For the past five years I’ve been up in Bellingham pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, skiing the Cascades, mountain biking, climbing, and more. To give an idea of my background, as a kid my family and I would camp out every summer and play bluegrass music with our old-timey pickin’ friends. My grandfather was an accomplished double bass player, he and my grandmother played in many bands together. My dad is also a talented guitarist, so I grew up surrounded by music. I’ve been lucky to be part of several bands in the groovy Bellingham indie rock scene, including singing and playing with Madrona (now Madrona Ave) and my current band, Spanky & the Bears. I also record music with my sister and under my solo project, Jalen Haynes. Looking forward to making music with you!
