I began playing at 13 when I was given my first electric guitar and became fascinated with the sounds and playing proficiency of the masterful Jazz Fusion and Neo- Classical guitarists of the late 70s and 80s. This led me to a lifelong love of music and the guitar and a desire for musical excellence.

I started playing the guitar at the age of 15. I took two lessons from a local instructor and promptly quit. Why? The problem was the instructor didn't teach me anything fun. I picked it up again after six months and started learning songs. From that point on I was hooked! I quickly picked up the basics and then became a serious student of the instrument. I not only studied other people's music but also studied note reading, harmony and theory, scales and arpeggios, modes, songwriting, different styles of music (rock, jazz, fusion, classical, blues) and anything that interested me or I thought would make me a better musician. After seven years of playing and learning I decided I wanted to be a musician for a living. I decided to attend the Musicians Institute of Technology in Hollywood, CA. I took the entrance examination, tested out into the highest group, and was immediately accepted. I graduated from their guitar program in 1984 with a wealth of knowledge and playing experience. The same day that I arrived back home in Phoenix I stopped into a local music store and applied for a position as a guitar teacher. I was hired that day and I have made my living teaching and playing guitar ever since.

My musical journey has two distinct parts. The first part starts in the third grade. I was enlisted to play upright bass in the school orchestra. I was plopped behind the bass and told to watch the conductor, that was a complete disaster. Eventually though, with the help of some great teachers, I found my footing and 35 years later I am still playing and teaching bass. The second part started when I was about 12 years old when I obtained my first 6 string electric guitar. That was it. It was over. My path was set. Throughout my teens I could be found playing in local rock and metal bands, and doing my absolute best to learn everything the hard way. And after spending a few very frustrating years things started to click and make sense, and more importantly sound good. At that point I understood the instrument and music pretty clearly. As I got better many of my friends wanted to learn what I was doing and I started teaching them. By the time was in my early 20's I was teaching several days a week and now 25 years later, I am having a blast as a full time instructor teaching a roster full of students of all ages, all backgrounds and all skill levels. I rely on my vast experience, knowledge and resources in order to guide students on their paths.

I began playing drums at the age of 13, ever since then I have been practicing almost every day, trying to teach myself every skill I was able to in order to improve as a drummer. My passion lies in performing, sharing, and learning music. Being able to share my passion with likeminded students brings me joy and also allows me to help them achieve their goals, whether it be performance or just playing for their own enjoyment and love of music. My experience with teaching also lies within my ten plus years training in martial arts, something that taught me how to engage and share my ideas with my students. I love listening to any genre of music and exploring those genres to improve my flexibility as an artist, my favorites to play usually lie within Progressive metal, Classic rock, Math rock, and Funk, however sometimes find lots of value in playing less drum prominent genres like Classical or Pop music. I am excited to share my experience and lead my students towards their goals, and hope to spread my passion for music however I can; being patient and flexible in my instruction to help students most effectively learn at their own pace, and develop their own distinct passions.
