Kansas Music Hall of Fame Inductee Craig "Twister" Steward is the former Harmonica artist with Frank Zappa. He was called the "Hendrix of the Harp" by Hohner Harmonica Inc. Steward has recording credits on three of Zappa's albums, and has performed in France, Amsterdam, and England. Steward was also featured playing harmonica on the motion picture soundtrack "Men Don't Leave", starring Jessica Lange. Luke Penner is a drummer & percussionist from Wichita, Kansas. Luke's music training started at the age of 8 when he took snare drum lessons and drumset lessons at the School of Rock. In fifth grade, Luke joined the Eisenhower Band of Tigers beginning his career as a classical percussionist.        As he moved through his time at Eisenhower, he branched out into other facets of music. In middle school, he joined jazz band playing drumset. In high school he joined the marching band, playing the marching bass drum for a year, then marching snare the next three years. During this time, he became practiced on all percussion instruments, including keyboard percussion, timpani, and other auxiliary percussion. He also taught himself electric guitar and bass as a young teen to play along with the heavier rock and metal music he developed an interest in. He took this skill into jazz band in high school where he moved to upright bass for two years. Finishing out high school, Luke was awarded the title of section leader in the percussion section and earned the outstanding jazz musician award given to a single student at the end of each year.       Post-high school, Luke attends Wichita State University where he is currently studying for a degree in audio production with a minor in music. In his time at college, he played jazz drums in a combo group under the teaching of Steve Hatfield. Luke also took lessons privately with Steve Hatfield during that time. Luke continues to study various music classes at Wichita State for a more traditional music education.       More non-traditionally, Luke did Rock Academy at Damm Music Center as a younger teenager where he played as a multi-instrumentalist to various genres and bands from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Slipknot. After two years in that small group, he joined various local bands. He currently plays often around town and tours regularly, playing in various areas of the United States as a drummer.       Luke has a love for all genres from jazz to emo to hardcore and all that fall in-between.

Mary Elliott developed an interest in music at a young age, when she began taking piano, guitar, and vocal lessons. Julian Urrego is a Colombian American guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and songwriter currently based here in Wichita, KS. He is an active performer in the Wichita music scene while studying jazz guitar under William Flynn at Wichita State University. With a broad palette of musical and cultural influences, he has delved into the music scenes of Kansas and Texas, exploring jazz, free improvisation, Latin, metal, punk, and folk music. Each instructor customizes lessons to ensure you are learning what you like and having fun. Your instructor will start you slowly, introducing new concepts each week, plus give you exercises or easy songs to play to keep you learning at home.
Learning an instrument is an enriching and rewarding experience that creates lifelong benefits, including increased self-esteem and the boosting of memory. Additionally, benefits for school-age individuals can include improved coordination, the expanding of social skills, and higher scores in math, reading and language.
30-minute lessons allow young or beginner students to learn the basics of the instrument and start playing songs. 60-minute lessons are ideal for more advanced students looking to progress faster and focus on the finer points of technique.
This varies by age and the type of goals the student has set out to achieve. However, most new students usually spend 15–30 min. practicing daily, while advanced students can practice for an hour or more each day in between lessons.
Our flexible curriculum allows students of all skill levels to experience growth. We help create a foundational understanding of music theory through the style of music you want to play. Our instructors will work to understand your goals and passions, and make sure you are on the path to learning what you want at your own speed.
Our Lessons staff will work with you to determine your current skill level, stylistic interest and ambitions. We'll then help you choose an instructor who best suits your style and goals. If at any point, you'd like to change instructors, let us know. Our weekly monitoring of progress and wide-ranging curriculum means you can switch to any of our qualified instructors, or another instrument, without missing a beat.
