Gabriel Gomez

Gabriel Gomez began his musical journey at the age of 8. Being immersed by music at a young age, he quickly grew a love and appreciate for the art. In school, he joined band where he learned music theory and how to play the saxophone. By age 10, he played his first gig as a horn player apart of his family's band. Playing in front of an audience and the feeling of being on a stage set his course for pursuing music as a career. At age 14, he landed his first full time gig in a local cover band: The Deval Project. He played the local circuit in Bakersfield and got his break playing on stage with Latin legends: Malo, Tierra, Marcos Reyes (WAR) and Freddy Fender Jr. Throughout high school, his grandmother became an avid supporter of his music. She took him to many jazz clinics where he learned more about saxophone and the art of jazz. After high school, Gabriel went on to study at California State University, Bakersfield. This is where he sharpened his understanding of theory and writing. Eventually, he got in contact with local artists and ultimately got to play alongside great names like Paul Perez (Tower of Power, Mentoburu), Doug Wimbish (Living Colour, Sugar Hill Gang). By age 23, Gabriel Gomez had worked alongside notable groups, composed for local artists, and recorded as a studio musician. He is currently working on a record with his band Cacti, with plans to release late 2021.

Joseph Caquias is a self-taught drummer and composer from Bakersfield, California. Since the age of 10, Joseph has continued to teach himself the art of drumming. Born in Huntington Park, California and raised in Paramount, Gabe has always been surrounded by a variety of music genres. His musical journey began at the age of 13 when he was inspired by his grandpa and uncle, and other musicians after watching them perform. Being surrounded by multiple types of music genres he grew an appreciation for all types of music and grew a strong passion and understanding for latin styles. More so that he pursued music in college and graduated from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, CA with a degree in Drum Performance and minor in Music Business. Along the way, Gabriel has also had the privilege of teaching in the SLAM program where he taught elementary students how to be a part of a band and play music together. He has also taught at Musicians Institute as an aid where he taught rhythm reading and performed with students.

Originally from Delano, CA, Rafael's journey began at the age of 13 when he was inspired by one of his good friends to pursue music. He began with a simple chord book that his father got for him and taught himself how to play guitar. Moving into high school his music teacher took a notice into his chord knowledge and invited him to join a contemporary music class. Through this class Rafael was able to develop skills and tools to be able to confidently play across many types of genres. Moving on from his schooling, Rafael further honed his skills and began playing guitar in live settings with bands and even taking it a step further in stepping into recording and doing session work. Most recently, Rafael has taken steps into music education and teaches music to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities at a local nonprofit. With his experience he hopes to be able to inspire and build up the next generation of excellent musicians!

Each instructor customizes lessons to ensure you are learning what you like and having fun. Your instructor will start you slowly, introducing new concepts each week, plus give you exercises or easy songs to play to keep you learning at home.
Learning an instrument is an enriching and rewarding experience that creates lifelong benefits, including increased self-esteem and the boosting of memory. Additionally, benefits for school-age individuals can include improved coordination, the expanding of social skills, and higher scores in math, reading and language.
30-minute lessons allow young or beginner students to learn the basics of the instrument and start playing songs. 60-minute lessons are ideal for more advanced students looking to progress faster and focus on the finer points of technique.
This varies by age and the type of goals the student has set out to achieve. However, most new students usually spend 15–30 min. practicing daily, while advanced students can practice for an hour or more each day in between lessons.
Our flexible curriculum allows students of all skill levels to experience growth. We help create a foundational understanding of music theory through the style of music you want to play. Our instructors will work to understand your goals and passions, and make sure you are on the path to learning what you want at your own speed.
Our Lessons staff will work with you to determine your current skill level, stylistic interest and ambitions. We'll then help you choose an instructor who best suits your style and goals.
