I’ve been playing music since I was 12, when I started learning guitar and oboe. Since then I’ve tried to learn as many instruments and styles of music as possible. I am currently finishing up my Bachelors at California State University Fullerton where I am earning a degree in Music Education. After my schooling, I hope to become a band director for public schools so I can inspire kids to be musicians in the same way my directors inspired me.

I've taught guitar and advanced theory privately for years and helped at the colleges I've attended as assistants and work help hires. I have studied through Fullerton College, Cal Poly Pomona, some MI online courses, as well as Berklee, and continue to expand my knowledge on the daily. Through my college experience I honed my expertise into production, technology, Pro Tools certifications, and a few other niche instruments like synths. I love to reinforce fundamentals and break the barriers my students have to understand the concepts they want to know. I am going to continue my education further for my Masters down the line in Music Education.

I am a classically trained musician, and I love to learn everything there is about music. While there is a heavy emphasis on setting up good habits for proper technique and a complete understanding of music and your instrument, I think the true value of my lessons are teaching you the process of becoming an absolute master at a specific skill set, rather it be music or anything else. I specialize in modern guitar playing, including but not limited to styles and techniques used by Polyphia, Animals as Leaders, and Spiro Dussias. If you're looking to learn anything djent, heavy, or technical, I am your guy.
Joseph Benz

Joe has been teaching at Guitar Center since 2023. When he was 9, he began learning various instruments such as the violin and saxophone. From a young age, he was privately instructed by Michael Lasserre, a PYLUSD educator, and Ernie Del Fante, a local jazz musician and jazz educator at Fullerton College. These two teachers provided integral knowledge and instruction which resulted in Joe joining several prestigious middle school and high school concert and jazz bands, which included the SCSBOA Jazz and Symphonic Ensembles. Performing in competitive jazz groups was the most thrilling part of the experience, and lead him to be a part of award winning high school jazz ensembles, compete and place in the Reno Jazz Festival, and earn a performance scholarship from Steamer's Jazz Club. After performing with the Fullerton College Jazz Ensemble, Joe began independent study and performances. His teaching is a full spectrum of his experiences as lifelong musician and performer.
