Na Hoku Hanohano Metal Album of the Year winner Ryan Imata makes his living as a civil engineer but is an avid and active recording artist, live gigging musician, producer and songwriter, as well as guitar tech and instructor. A Mililani resident, his career highlights include opening for Godsmack at the Blaisdell Hall and The Plain White Ts at Pipeline, both in Honolulu. He has played in bands for over 30 years, and currently plays in Na Hoku-award winning band Storm, acoustic duo KR Connection, and his original metal band Kaiju. He is a winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2003, and Musician’s Friend’s Coverband 2010. His role as a producer resulted in Wicked Scarlet’s Na Hoku nominated debut. He builds and repairs guitars, making the instruments of local musicians play optimally. He is an adopter of digital technology with experience using ProTools, Superior Drummer, virtual amps and IRs, and digital guitars. As a Guitar Center instructor, he teaches electric (6, 7, and 8 string) and acoustic guitar, bass and ukulele. His favorite styles of music are metal, classic and modern rock, punk, alternative, blues, and funk, as well as fingerstyle arrangements of music in all genres. As a player, he loves SHREDDING AND CHUGGING! If it rocks, he can teach it - everything from the Ventures and the Beatles, to Periphery and Lamb of God, and everything in between!! His approach to lessons incorporates teaching songs and making lessons fun while also teaching theory and the techniques that are important to create a foundation for a lifetime of playing.

Each instructor customizes lessons to ensure you are learning what you like and having fun. Your instructor will start you slowly, introducing new concepts each week, plus give you exercises or easy songs to play to keep you learning at home.

This varies by age and the type of goals the student has set out to achieve. However, most new students usually spend 15–30 min. practicing daily, while advanced students can practice for an hour or more each day in between lessons.

Our instructors will work to understand your goals and passions, and make sure you are on the path to learning what you want at your own speed.
