Max began his journey as a guitarist when he was 14. His early influences came from artists like The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr., and Jack White. As he progressed as a guitarist and widened his musical taste, he began diving into artists like John Mayer, Cory Wong, and Emily Wolfe. When learning a song, Max prefers to listen to live versions because he likes being able to notice the changes that are made in a live setting versus in a studio recording. Jonathan is a percussionist and pianist hailing from Burleson, Texas. He holds a Bachelors of Music in performance from University of North Texas. Jonathan has been playing piano for 27 years and has completed certification with the National Piano Guild, which includes extensive study in various performance styles, technique programs and music theory. While at UNT, he participated in the Wind Symphony under Professor Eugene Corporon, the Percussion Ensemble under Professor Mark Ford, the 2 O'Clock Steel Band and the UNT Indoor Drumline under Paul Rennick. Jonathan was a winner of the 2013 UNT Concerto Competition. Since aging out of those programs, he has been involved with the larger circuit as an instructor, creative designer and audio specialist. He also is an experienced composer and arranger, writing for marching band programs across the country, as well as his own personal music. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys video games, board games, and playing with his two cats Puffin and Atreus.

Janu started as a self taught guitarist from the age of 10 and as a young adult attended the University of the Philippines College of Music. As a classical guitar major there, complete the course for Performing Musical Arts. After his time in University, he branched out to do session work for several artist in a variety of genres. He's performed concerts, on TV Shows, recorded and toured for over 20 years. He came to teach at Guitar Center in 2013 at our Katy location and has also taught at our Willowbrook location. There he taught several students of all ages for over 7 years in our program and aided them in both instrument instruction and performance. After a hiatus, we welcome him back to Guitar Center and our Central Houston location!

Wren's musical journey started at age 16 in Lufkin, Texas. There, they going their friends to start and perform locally in metal and punk bands around the area. They wanted to continue to learn their craft in both bass guitar and guitar, which took them to their alma mater, Angelina College. There, they studied classical and jazz guitar in both solo and ensemble settings as well as joined the jazz band. It was also in Lufkin where they started to learn to teach others in local music stores and privately. After serving in the Air Force, they continued their musical training at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas where they acquired a Associate of Fine Arts in Music Performance. In between all of the learning and teaching, Wren kept playing and expanding their repertoire. In addition to rock, punk and metal, they started to perform and play in Country, Bluegrass, Folk and Americana bands. Wren loves to teach all different styles and loves when students are able to express themselves through music and songwriting.

Rick 's passion for music started at a very early age. Starting on the trumpet, he migrated to guitar after hearing an old copy of Bill Haley and the Comets followed by the Beatles. Each instructor customizes lessons to ensure you are learning what you like and having fun. Your instructor will start you slowly, introducing new concepts each week, plus give you exercises or easy songs to play to keep you learning at home.
Learning an instrument is an enriching and rewarding experience that creates lifelong benefits, including increased self-esteem and the boosting of memory. Additionally, benefits for school-age individuals can include improved coordination, the expanding of social skills, and higher scores in math, reading and language.
30-minute lessons allow young or beginner students to learn the basics of the instrument and start playing songs. 60-minute lessons are ideal for more advanced students looking to progress faster and focus on the finer points of technique.
This varies by age and the type of goals the student has set out to achieve. However, most new students usually spend 15–30 min. practicing daily, while advanced students can practice for an hour or more each day in between lessons.
Our flexible curriculum allows students of all skill levels to experience growth. We help create a foundational understanding of music theory through the style of music you want to play. Our instructors will work to understand your goals and passions, and make sure you are on the path to learning what you want at your own speed.
Our Lessons staff will work with you to determine your current skill level, stylistic interest and ambitions. We'll then help you choose an instructor who best suits your style and goals. If at any point, you'd like to change instructors, let us know. Our weekly monitoring of progress and wide-ranging curriculum means you can switch to any of our qualified instructors, or another instrument, without missing a beat.
